Trauma Competent Caregiver Training
At Westside, we are committed to meeting people in their place of pain, and because we know that trauma impacts so many, we offer a one-day Trauma Competent Caregiver course. This training is for anyone who wants to demonstrate compassion, love, and empathy to their community.
This one-day training offers insight into the impact of trauma on individuals and how it manifests in attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. You will leave this workshop with helpful techniques and approaches to care for individuals who have experienced trauma.
Event Fee:
$25
Check-in starts at 8:30 a. Training will begin promptly at 9a and end promptly at 3p.

Lunch & Snacks provided - Lunch will be provided around noon, along with some snacks throughout the day.
Water provided
We will have water available all day but you will need to bring any additional beverages you may want. -
Yourself!
All training materials will be provided. -
This training is eligible for 5.5 hours for foster parents as well as 4.3 from KDHE

Surviving the Holidays

The holiday season is filled with joy, but can also be a difficult season for some. Adjusting to a divorce or grieving the loss of a loved one can impact you in ways you don't anticipate. Join us for resources and encouragement as you prepare to navigate the holiday season.
This is a one-day class that costs $10. The cost includes a book and brunch.
*Children's programming is during the event so people have a place for their children if needed.

The Story

Stephen Ministry Informational Meeting
Stephen Ministers are trained Westside members with a passion for bringing Christ's love and care to people experiencing a life challenge. They provide one-to-one care to people in a transitional time in life, such as divorce, job loss, grief, illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment. To find out more about how you can serve as a Stephen Minister, register to attend our one-hour information meeting on August 11th from 11-12pm. Our next training session begins September 10th, 2024.

Foster/Adopt Care Community Training
Monday August 5th | 6:30pm OR Thursday, August 15th | 10am | WFC Lenexa Room 201
At Westside Family Church, we are committed to caring for families amid challenges and struggles. We are specifically dedicated to supporting families who are parenting children who are in foster care or who have been adopted. A primary way to serve these families is through a Care Community comprised of Westside volunteers. This training is the first step to discovering best practices for serving a foster or adoptive family, and those who would like to take the next steps will be placed on a team and matched with a family to serve in their area.

Premarital Counseling

Are you thinking about getting engaged or currently planning a wedding? Westside's Premarital Counseling combines classes focused on foundational marriage topics with the SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) Assessment to help you create a healthy foundation for your marriage. In addition to attending classes, you will be assigned a trained Marriage Mentor Couple to meet with who will help you understand how your SYMBIS results give you a personalized roadmap to strengthen your marriage. Research shows that premarital counseling combined with the use of an assessment like SYMBIS helps you build a relationship that lasts. We look forward to walking alongside you as you work to cultivate a God-honoring marriage.
